McCallįor a newer country song, I would have to say, ALMOST HOME by Craig Morgan.įrom: Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada Too many to choose from, but my vote has to go to "Roses for Mama" by C.W. For honerable mention I would have to say "Kiss Her Once For Me", by Delbert McClinton on his latest recording, the Cost Of Living. You guys have pretty much nailed all the ones that first come to mind to me. GFI Ultra D-10, Airline 6-string lap Pugh "Old Shep" where the young boy has to shoot his aging dog Here's a couple of others I think are quite worth mentioning: I checked my C D.the actual title is "Flowers".you gotta hear this song by Watson.
There are so many BUT.#1 in my book would be a Gene Watson song with this hook."look what it took, for me to finally bring you flowers" Tragic, sad, full of regretsįrom: Wentworthville, New South Wales, Australia The whole song, instrumentation, tone, vocal delivery, all of it is just loaded with melancholy, especially the line "Maybe I'll Just Go Away". In addition to "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, which I referred to previoiusly, "Blue Moon With Heartache" by Roseann Cash gets to me. That would have to be WEEN's "Fluffy" from "12 Country Greats"! Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10 Vince started to write that song after Keith Whitley died and a few years later, he finished writing the song after his brother died. Another sad song is Vince Gill's "Go Rest High On That Mountain".
Wayland Holyfield wrote Don Williams' song "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend". Not sure who wrote it, but Don Williams had the hit. I keep remembring more, like Our Babies Book, I think it was by E.T. Wish I'd learned lap steel when I still had a lap. I think Anita You're Dreaming by Waylon and Jessie Colter is the prettiest sad song. "My Daddy is Only a Picture" by Eddy Arnold altho' "I've Got Tears In My Ears from Lying on my Back In My Bed While I Cry Over You" by Homer & Jethro runs a close second. It's too bad they aren't recording songs like these anymore.
I learned that when Hank would do a show, he always wanted to see people cryin', and if there weren't any people cryin', Hank would tell his steel player, Don Helms to play a real high steel turnaround so people would start cryin'.
Hank Williams knew how to sing a sad country song. "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is definitely one of the saddest country songs. Your profile | join | preferences | help | search Classic country shuffle styles for Band-in-a-Box, by BIAB guru Jim Baron.
