Your computer needs to have Wi-Fi or ethernet access the first time you set PdaNet up, because you need to download and install a program on it. As I said, though, I have used this program fairly heavily with streaming video, and all has been fine. It’s not illegal the carrier just might try to charge you more. You have to be careful not to use too much data through it, as your wireless carrier might not like your tethering for free. If you’re on a 4G network, you can expect speeds two to three times faster than that. Back at home, where I have good Verizon 3G coverage, I got impressive download speeds of 2.51 megabits per second and upload speeds of 0.67 mbps, faster than many DSL connections. Even when I had only so-so data coverage, I was able to get a connection on my laptop that was fast enough for me to stream video of a live event–very cool.
I recently took a 12-hour train trip, the perfect testing ground for this app. Plus, some wireless carriers charge extra money for tethering–PdaNet essentially circumvents that.
Android 2.2 offers USB tethering, too, but as of right now Mac users (like myself) can’t take advantage of it.
Afterward, you just attach your phone to your computer via USB, click the connect button on your phone, and do the same on your computer, and you’re up and running. The first time you start the app, it tells you to install PdaNet on your laptop as well the whole thing is a simple process.
The full version (which you can unlock in the free version with a serial code obtained upon purchase) is essentially like having a portable DSL connection. Could really use some help with fixing this as I didnt see anything about it on the PDANET. It causes my computer to disconnect and reconnect several times before the app eventually just stops attempting to connect. The free version offers limited functionality: You’ll be able to use the Web, but secure (HTTPS) sites and applications such as e-mail, messaging, and Twitter programs probably won’t work. Process input error: : Attempt to read from field .f.b on a null object reference. Once installed, it’s simple to use, and it works quite well. 3) Accept the terms of the install and click next until you see ‘Phone Selection’.
This installs a driver package on PC that is generic to most of the devices. As a pre-requisite, a small application needs to be downloaded on your PC as well. The full version ($19) of this tethering app allows you to give your laptop full online access anywhere you have cell service. If you have User Account Control turned on, you will see a warning. Pdanet allows you to tether your PC via your Android smartphone or tablet to connect to internet on PC. I'm not allowed to use work ethernet, etc.PdaNet is a traveler’s dream. Why would it do this even if I can see that the ethernet is metered? Any ideas or help? Right now it's the ONLY way I can get on my personal laptop at work. I did try to go into the registry following the steps but always get an error message, something like you don't have permission (I did do all the steps). I have to pay extra this month because of it. When I go into setttings, network it seems to show under the ethernet area as PDAnet but it's downloading ALL updates and wiping out my phone data at a mad rate. For some reason I can find no way to meter this. You have to plug the phone in by usb and open PDAnet on the laptop and connect. However I cant access the router login page and when connected to router there is no connection. I even have the indicator light on the router showing it has connection. I've tried numerous things to get the connection to my router.
With a recent update to the android system (nougat), you can no longer tether your phone wirelessly. I've got PDANET to work and have internet access on my computer. BUT, I used to tether my phone to the laptop and use the phone data thru Foxfi. This download is provided to you free of charge. The download is provided as is, with no modifications or changes made on our side. We also recommend you check the files before installation. The download was scanned for viruses by our system. I have also set most of the wifi's I use the same (there's a couple that I don't want metered so I can do WU if needed). The download version of PdaNet for Windows Mobile 圆4 version is 2.0. I have the creator's update and did go in and set my ethernet to metered and it shows as such. It's a little different, not sure if you can help. I am trying to meter a connection on my laptop.
